It is the 41st Millenium, and for countless years all the galaxy has ever known is war. The mighty Imperium spreads itself thin across space, desperately clinging to what worlds they have and retaking those lost to them. Subsector Stolidus is no different from many others in that it too is embroiled in war.
It started with a horrible accident, a warp drive overloading upon entering the warp, causing its ship to explode while midway between the Immaterium and reality. The resulting explosion caused a rift that opened up into the horrors of the warp, and with it came ships of all forms embracing the chaos gods. Thus, the siege of Forge World Arcellius began.
The Forge World held a key location and resource in the subsector, as it provided both bountiful resources and armaments, but also allowed for easy access to the other worlds of the subsector. It was obvious that whoever controlled the Forge World would hold the advantage in the battle.
In the ensuing battle, all forms of government and ruling techpriests were either forced to flee or were killed in gristly ways, leaving the Forge World as a chaotic battlefield that lacked much in organization on both sides.
To only make matters worse, a space hulk appeared in system, and from its form came Ork ships of varying size which proceeded to put in their claim on the Forge World as well, occasionally an ork ship crashing with no greenskins on board but horrible monstrosities that preyed upon the people of the Forge World, genestealers.
With all of this battle and confusion happening, the Imperial forces of the sector barely keeping themselves alive in the fight, nothing could be done when the Hive World Thanatos turned out to be a Necron Tomb World. With only a skeleton crew of PDF left to watch over the planet's defense, it was rapidly overrun and now houses eery green skies and lifeless ships that float in orbit, making any hope currently trying to retake the world or even to bombard it a lost hope. There still remains a few survivors on the planet, either spared by the mysterious machines for unknown reasons or had stayed hidden during the Necron attack. Occasionally a drop-pod or single dropship can manage to land on the planet for special operations and reconnaissance missions, though such are considered missions too dangerous to just put out willy nilly and only the bravest or most foolish of individuals would pull such missions off. To only make matters worse, the soulless machines began to appear on other planets, apparently able to teleport forces from their Tomb World to the others in the subsector, a very real and dangerous threat.
On the outskirts of the system came a new force to be reckoned with, the T'au had come to lay their stakes, invading and claiming the Paradise Planet, Beatius, and renamed it in their alien tongue Ko'vash. Orbital guns dot the surface of the planet now, making it a dangerous prospect at best to try and go into orbit of. From here the T'au have since launched invasion forces to the Forge World to try and claim it for themselves, recognizing its strategic importance.
The last to join into the fray were the mysterious Eldar. Called to action by the threat of the Necrons and Chaos forces, the enigmatic race knew that they had to combat the threat, but no craftworld alone had the time or resources to handle it. As such, multiple ships from different craftworlds came together, donating what warriors and seers they could to the task of combating the threat. A problem lied in that there was no way to close the chaos rift from their ships safely without being destroyed by the enemy fleets, and the Webway gates on Thanatos had become inert after the Necron Invasion save for a select few scattered ones. It was decided then that while the Eldar did not wish to become embroiled in the war of the lesser races, they had to put their stakes into the Forge World's invasion as well, as from there the Seer council could perform a ritual that would allow them to strike at the heart of both problems.
Though of course, the Eldar were not the only force to emerge from the Webway, their Dark Eldar Counterparts began to send raiding parties to the subsector, seeking to claim new slaves and harvest the souls of the weak. Their presence has only made already dire matters worse, but such threats of course meant the Imperium had its own response.
The Mechanicus that had escaped the forge world held great political sway and demanded that forces be sent to retake the subsector, particularly the forge world. Their cries of anger did not fall on deaf ears, as many responded to the call. Imperial Guard Regiments from across the galaxy sent forces to assist, as well as the attentions of all three Inquisitorial sects and even companies sent by various Space Marine Chapters had arrived. It was obvious that this was to be a battle on par with the wars of Armageddon, and only one faction could survive to hold it all. Who will you be?
