The broken water main was hardly the ideal place to refill her empty water canteens (all taken from the dead of course) but in the absence of proper plumbing the young ganger would have to make do...
It took her longer than she would have liked to fill the canteens, but after much cursing, and several face fulls of water she finally managed it. She retreated from the gushing water source and dug through her bag for a moment, searching for the bottle where she kept the drugs she'd collected.
She shook out two pills, a pain killer and a stimulant of some kind, and popped both into her mouth, taking a swig of water to wash it down. She took another after when a sudden crash made the young ganger nearly choke. She stifled her coughs and slammed the canteen back into the bag before swinging it onto her back.
She had both her weapons in hand instantly, pointed toward the source of the noise and the lumbering form which had emerged. She recognized the power armour, there had been others wearing similar get tups stalking the lower-hives... but theirs had all seemed worn and ancient by comparison to the one in front of her.
She watched for a moment longer as he gulped at the water and began moving off. He stopped briefly, returning a discarded child's toy to its mangled owner and then began moving off. She tugged at her lip ring, momentarily considering what to do about the space marine before she finally stood and left her hiding place, pulling up the hood and mask as she did so.
"You're going the wrong way." She called to the space marine. She stood in the open, her weapons still clutched in her hands though held at her side. Between the hood covering her head, and the red triangle of fabric her whole face was obscured, save for the pair of eyes that peered out at the space marine, waiting to see how he reacted.

Anna rubbed her head. She had a bad headache. Not like when the building had nearly fallen on her, this one was like waking up from a long sleep but in a painful way. She tried to take another drink from the empty canteen but there was no water left. Her throat still felt dry and knew that without more water she’d die of dehydration.
As if the Emperor himself knew of her plight at that exact moment she heard the loud clang of metal striking metal and the sound of rushing water. The sound was enough to move her to action and she stood up and headed in the direction of the sound, scooping up her meltagun as she went.
She followed the sound down the street. With her head still aching she thought she heard a voice coming from the same direction but she dismissed it. She rounded the corner and stopped dead in her tracks.
There, standing not ten meters away was the marine she’d been fighting with. Kald'r was facing a broken water main, but she followed his line of sight to a hooded, masked figure facing him…

“You're going the wrong way!” The voice was harsh, so it must have been a hiver. Kald'r spun on the spot, swinging his bolter upright; not a mean feat given his wounds. Through gritted teeth he wheezed slowly as his helmet's targeting system struggled to identify the target. No signs of mutation No symbols of heresy Only a small red bandanna as her mask, most likely some sign of 'clan' allegiance. With bloodied eyes, Kald'r examined the woman before him...before he came to the decision that she was human, and imperial. But that didn't mean she wasn't a possible target. “And where, may I ask, would you go?” questioned the exhausted astartes. He could not stay awake much longer, without risking serious harm upon himself. He needed a rest. Maybe if this hiver doesn't slit his throat when he's asleep, she might be a useful ally. “But first..what is your name. And why are you here?” he gripped his bolter's foregrip and aimed straight at the ganger's head as he barked his challenge.

"I'm..." Spike she almost finished. She decided against that a moment later. Spike had a criminal record a mile long and she had no idea if the man before her had any way of checking that.
"I'm a guide." She answered finally. "All the lost soldiers would stay lost down here without someone to show them the way back." It wasn't a complete lie. She had guided Chops back to Imperial lines... and she probably would have guided any guardsmen she found back as well... if they weren't all dead.
"Imperial lines are up the spire." She answered the hulking space marine pointing upwards with her auto-pistol. "There's only one way to go up now. They collapsed the rest of them. And it's that way." She pointed over her shoulder with the auto-pistol before scratching her head with the barrel and once more lowering it to her side.
"I can show you the way, or if you'd prefer, I can leave you to get hopelessly lost and probably die."
She shrugged.
"Your call."

'A guide?' Kald'r knew this was only a half truth. Most likely she was hiding something from him, but her trusted that it was merely a personal truth she chose to lie. He stared coldly at the girl through his helmet, and after a minor internal debate, he chose to trust her. He knelt down as to be eye level with the ganger, staring into her eyes. “If it is no insult, I shall refer to you as 'Virgil' if it is...then deal with it.” he barked, remembered a tale of a spirit of a warrior of that name guiding a man to defeat the darkness of a world. He read no distinguishable emotion in the girl as he glared at her. Satisfied with his trust in her, he stood upright, readying his bolter. “Then let us descend into this blind world.”

Scelene shrugged.
"Whatever," She muttered turning around. It was only then that she noticed there was someone else standing nearby. She turned towards the person. A woman.
"Friend of yours?" She asked pointing towards the woman. "Because she doesn't look like any friend of mine."

Sister Anna was unsure either person had seen her as they both seemed focused on each other. Kald'r had his weapon trained on the hooded figure, a smart idea given that they were armed. They spoke for a moment then the marine got down on one knee to talk to the other person that Anna’s slowly clearing head recognized as a woman. The marine stood then the woman shrugged and turned and looked directly at her.
"Friend of yours?" The woman asked pointing at her. "Because she doesn't look like any friend of mine.” She finished. Kald'r looked directly at the sister for a long moment. She guessed that he was trying to determine if she was free of taint or even to remember who she was. Finally he nodded at her.
“It is good to see you made it Anna.”

Seeing a familiar face that didn't want to kill him, comforted Kald'r. He began to miss being a part of a kill-team, at least that way he had battle-brothers at his side, but as a kill-marine, he was alone. Now he had Anna, and 'Virgil' [Kald'r was determined to discover her true name] it was beginning to feel like he returned to the team he formed long ago...not even ten days ago actually, with that mutant and Salamander...Is Faust even still alive, he wondered to himself as they moved on...they could use his sense of direction. Manin moved on, following the hooded female as she guided them through what could only be described as what it was; A warzone.

Scelene led the pair through the twisting broken alleys of the lower-hive. She didn't say anything as she went on, in fact she barely acknowledged the pair's existence except for occasionally stopping to ensure that they were still following her.
She stopped abruptly halfway down an alley, looking toward the hab on their left side. She recognized the signs. The heavy metal door, the windows barred where the flakboards had fallen away...
Another gang's stash, built to withstand the angry aggressions of a junkie trying to get his next hit, or an armed assault from a rival gang. She was starting to run low on painkillers and stimulants, and now was as good a time as any to stock up again. She stepped up to the door and tried the handle, locked, that was a good sign.
"I need stuff from in here." She said as way of explanation, going to one knee in front of the door as she began fiddling with the lock. There were a few almost silent mechanical clicks and she stood. "Stay here, watch for..."
Whatever else she was going to say was cut off by the guttural growl from beyond the iron door as it swung open. A plague zombie lunged for her and she ducked low, slamming her shoulder into the thing's legs and using its own momentum, flipped it over her shoulders.
It struggled to stand for only a moment before she slammed a foot down on its head with a sickening crunch. It stopped moving almost immediately.
"On second thought, one of you come in to watch my back while I look."

Manin saw the figure he followed fight the zombie in a very one sided fight. "On second thought, one of you come in to watch my back while I look." she sounded almost sarcastic towards herself. Manin glanced into the derilict building she had led them to. And thought for a second. He was well armed and despite slight damage, his night vision worked. Anna seemed well stocked in ammo, but not in food or water, and she was better armed for close quarters than Manin. So he turned and pointed sharply at Anna, moving his digit to the door as he ordered. “Anna, follow 'Virgil' in and give her cover.” For a second the battle-sister seemed confused by the name Kald'r had given, but quickly put two and two together and figured out he meant their guide. And with that they both moved into the darkness.

Anna did not understand why Kald'r had called the woman Virgil any more than she understood where they were going but she nodded to the kill-marine all the same. Having clear orders gave her focus, something her starved body was severely lacking. She felt a pang of hunger and thirst and wondered again how long she’d been out. She shook her head and put the thoughts from her mind, focusing on the marines orders. The woman stepped into the darkness and Anna followed her, bring her weapon up into a high-ready position. Behind her she heard Kald’r move in front of the door.
Anna could barely see inside the dimly lit building, though her eyes were quickly began to adjust. The other woman took a moment to look around the hallway they were in, and then pointed to a set of stairs.
“It’ll be upstairs somewhere.” She said as they moved down the hallway towards the stairs. The hallway was wide enough that the two women could move down it side by side. Anna covering the right with her meltagun and their guide covering the left with her autopistol and stub-automatic. Everywhere Anna could smell the stench of death and decay. It reminded her of the train. She noticed her guide pull her face covering up.
They reached the stairs and moved up them the same way, both watching for any sign of movement. They came out into another hallway and to a door that looked far more solid than the others. The woman pointed to it.
“Give me a second.” She knelt down and began to fiddle with the lock while Anna took a second to look around. The hallway they were in was fairly unremarkable with a dozen or so doors on either side of them. She heard some of the tumblers click then a louder snapping sound and the woman cursed. More clicking followed but the battle sister became aware of a rustling noise from another door. Another loud snap and curse and Anna heard the sound of movement get louder and it seemed to be coming from more than one place. The sister tapped the woman on the shoulder but she shook her off.
“Just give me a minute.” She said as she started on the lock again. The sounds were louder than ever now and Anna heard a moan from her left only to be answered by a moan somewhere to her right. A third snap and she pushed the woman out of the way.
“I think we’re out of time.” she said pressing her melta up against the door and pulling the trigger.

"Are you fucking stupid?!" Scelene snapped at the woman, her ears ringing from the melta blast in such close quarters. "That blast probably just woke up every motherfucker on the level! And not all of them are as easy to kill as these mother fuckers!"
To punctuate her point she pulled her stubber into her left hand and fired two shots at the creatures to their left. She pushed the door open and stepped into the stash room.
"Guys in armour show up when you start shooting off weapons! Especially weapons as loud as that thing!" She snapped as she began searching, dumping out boxes and going through neatly packaged piles of narcotics. "You fucking shoot them, and its like the shit just bounces off."
She dumped out a few more boxes before she found what she was looking for, cramming two of the packages into her bag. She stood and picked up a pack of lho-sticks off a nearby table before shouldering out of the room past the woman. She shot a few more zombies who had the misfortune to get in her way on the way out.
"We gotta go now." She said to both of them as she emerged from the hab. "Back the way we came, we need to find somewhere to hide."

“We need to find somewhere to hide” cried the ganger as her and Anna burst from the hiveblock, following the sound of Anna's melta blast, Kald'r readied himself for the incoming traitors. “No! We shall not be running!” Ordered Kald'r as he grabbed their guide as she tried to run past. “Wow..you really are as stupid as you look! Those armoured things are coming, and bullets can't stop them!” shouted the hiver, she clearly had no idea of what Kald'r and Anna had been fighting through. But Manin shot her a deep growl as he barked an order to Anna; “Anna, give her the pistol...it will make her realise that nothing cannot be killed.” as Anna handed the oversized pistol to the ganger, who seemed rather surprised at the...would it count as 'a gift?' Kald'r crouched and stared straight into the ganger's eyes, and growled “If it's hostile...we kill it!” He quickly spun on the spot to demolish a plague-bearer with a sharp boot to the head, to further his point. “Now, let's see what they are made of, I have had enough of hiding.”

"I'm not worried about the armoured thugs!" Scelene snapped. "We start shooting them, we get into a prolonged fire fight. All that noise attracts more attention. More of these," She gestured to the zombie corpse on the ground.
"More shit shows up until we run out of bullets. We get overrun, we die... if we're lucky."
She shook her head.
"This is a fight we can't win. So we bang out."

Sergeant Liah had just about had enough. Every motion brought about a fresh wave of pain to her tired overworked muscles. “Ten thousand…five hundred…and twenty one…mother fucking steps.” She panted miserably coming to a stop just underneath the manhole cover to what she sincerely hoped was street level. It had not been an easy climb, she’d shot her weapon dry burning through every spare laspack she had and she even managed to break her knife off in a plague zombies skull. Weaponless she’d run from horrors unimaginable until she found the service ladder. A straight beam that vanished into the overhead darkness with a simple rung ladder, as dubious as the idea seemed, climbing from the underhive to the surface it had been her only option at the time. To say it had been grueling would be a laughable understatement, she’d had to tie herself to the ladder more than once just to catch a rest, her muscles were sore to the point of uselessness and she’d already gone through her rations of food and water on the long climb. Shouldering the manhole cover aside with another pained grunt that would have embarrassed her on any other day she slowly, painfully clambered her way out onto the surface.
